Amazon will premiere One
Mississippi, a comedy, or “traumedy,” as out comedian and the
show's star Tig Notaro describes it, on September 9.
In One Mississippi, Notaro's
character returns to Mississippi after her mother's premature death.
During a Television Critics Association
(TCA) panel over the weekend, Notaro described the events in the
series as “85% real.”
“My mother died. I had cancer. I
had an intestinal disease and couldn't eat. I went through a
breakup. I had pneumonia. The list goes on,” she
said of 2012.
Of her character's sexuality, Notaro
said that she might be the first lesbian lead who does not come out
gay during the series, a reference to Ellen DeGeneres, who outed her
character on Ellen and herself in 1997.
