Colorado pastor Kevin Swanson on Saturday clarified his controversial stance that the biblical penalty for homosexuality is death.

At his National Religious Liberties Conference, Swanson reiterated his support for capital punishment for gays but said that he was not encouraging the death penalty for gays … yet.

Instead, Swanson said that gays first need time to repent.

“They need time to repent!” he yelled. “America needs time to repent. You say, 'Why don't you call for it?' America needs time to repent of their homosexuality, their adultery and their porn addictions.”

“America is steeped in a destructive form of homosexuality and friends, they're bound for hell! Do you understand? It's not so much an issue of the death penalty. It's an issue of God's judgment that's hanging upon this nation today,” he added.

On Friday, Republican presidential candidates Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal addressed the crowd.
