The Boston Globe on Wednesday
reported that anti-gay activist Scott Lively qualified to be on the
ballot as an independent candidate for the Massachusetts
gubernatorial election.
The paper reported that Lively
submitted the necessary signatures and paperwork to qualify for the
November ballot.
This is Lively's second bid for the
post.
Lively is best known for writing The
Pink Swastika: Homosexuality in the Nazi Party, in which he
claims that Adolf Hitler was gay and that gay rights are dangerous,
and his claims of having helped shape a harsh anti-gay law in Uganda
which was recently stuck down on technical grounds.
Ty Cobb, director of global engagement
at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest LGBT
advocate, responded in a
blog post.
“Hate is not an American value, and
Scott Lively’s long record of exporting vicious anti-LGBT bigotry
is horrifying,” said Cobb. “Lively’s words and actions harm
LGBT people from the United States to Uganda and beyond. He is one
of the most notorious extremists engaged in this work, and this is an
opportunity to highlight his deplorable rhetoric and advocacy.”
