An Iowa-based t-shirt company is
selling a t-shirt featuring Bob Vander Plaats, who helms the anti-gay
marriage Christian conservative group The Family Leader.
The t-shirt's graphic features a
monochrome Vander Plaats dressed in a dark suit and smiling along
with the caption, “Hi, I'm a huge fucking dick!”
An employee of RAYGUN
(formerly SMASH) confirmed that the store had produced the t-shirt but
added that sales were limited to last Friday's Offensive Shirt Party.
Raygun hosted the party, which included
drinks, at its Des Moines and Iowa City stores.
“We're always amazed to learn of more
examples of how the Far Left – the same people who call us
'intolerant' and 'haters' and 'bigots' when we speak the Truth in
love – treat us, simply for taking a stand to promote conservative
constitutional, pro-family, biblical values,” The Family Leader
said in an email to supporters.
“I guess the people behind this would
rather attack and smear an individual than have a civil discussion
about the issues,” the group added before asking for a donation.
The Family Leader is the group behind
the much ballyhooed anti-gay marriage pledge rejected by all but two
2012 presidential candidates: Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and
former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.
Earlier
this year, Vander Plaats was criticized for laughing at a fag
joke. He called an unidentified man's joke “pretty good.” “You
know what my wife says?” the man shared during a campaign stop.
“She says: Iowa, the state where you can't smoke a fag, but you can
marry one.”
