Randy Thomasson, head of the Christian
conservative group Save California, says gay activists are kidnapping
childrens' brains.
Thomassson's group is working to repeal
Senator Mark Leno's FAIR Education Act, also known as Senate
Bill 48, which mandates the inclusion of the historical contributions
of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans in the state's
textbooks. As the country's most populous state, California's move
could set the tone for textbooks throughout the nation.
Opponents of the law reacted swiftly to
its passage, submitting ballot language to the state for a proposed
referendum. The groups have until October 12 to collect the
signatures of 504,760 registered voters to qualify for the next
statewide ballot.
The Associated Press reported
last week that the Stop SB48 campaign faces an uphill climb,
primarily because the state's leading conservative groups have yet to
jump into the fight. Without their bankrolls, the underfunded
campaign is being forced to rely on volunteers to collect signatures,
instead of hiring paid signature gatherers.
In an interview with Sacramento's Fox
News affiliate Fox 40, Thomasson suggests children should not admire
LGBT people.
“Any day of the week starting in
January, children as young as kindergarten will be told that a
homosexual, a bisexual, or even a cross-dresser or someone who has
had healthy body parts in a sex-change operation cut off – that
this is a positive role model,” Thomasson warned. “They're not
going to be told that it's unhealthy; they're not going to be told,
well is this natural or is this a matter of environment. They won't
be told it. So, there's no critical thinking.”
“This is basically the gay activists
kidnapping the brains of the kids, and the parents have no say
whatsoever,” he added. (The video is embedded in the right panel
