Chaz Bono will compete in the upcoming
season of ABC's Dancing with the Stars.
According
to celebrity
website TMZ.com, Bono has agreed to participate in the show and
will be partnered with a female dancing professional.
The
42-year-old author-activist is the child of gay icon Cher and the
late entertainer-politician Sonny Bono. His transition is the
subject of the film Becoming Chaz,
which premiered in May on nascent cabler the Oprah Winfrey Network
(OWN). He's also written a memoir on the subject of his gender
reassignment, Transition: The Story of How I Became a Man.
In
June, Bono, actress Olympia Dukakis and celebrity chef Yigit Pura,
star of cabler Bravo's Top Chef: Just Desserts
helmed San Francisco's forty-first annual gay pride parade, one of
the nation's largest community pride events.
Rumored
to be competing against Bono on Dancing
is actor David Arquette.
An ABC
representative told E! Online that the network “will unveil the
cast this coming Monday night live during Bachelor Pad
on ABC.”
The
thirteenth season of Dancing with the Stars
begins on September 19.
