Kermit the Frog has told TMZ.com that
Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie are not gay.
The celebrity news show caught up with
Kermit in Los Angeles as he was leaving a store where he had
purchased some marijuana.
A recent petition calling on the
producers of Sesame Street to allow the puppets to marry in New York
attracted nationwide attention and prompted the show to respond that
Bert and Bernie are not gay.
“They're not gay, man, alright?
They're just friends,” Kermit said, then asked the interviewer,
“What you've never taken a bath with your best friend?”
“No, no I haven't,” was the
response.
“Yeah, well maybe you're gay,”
Kermit said.
Later he added: “Look, man, Bert and
Ernie teach preschool kids that it's alright to live with someone who
is different than you. They don't even have penises, alright. How
are you suppose to be gay if don't have a penis?”
“So what are you saying, that
lesbians can't be gay?” the interviewer asked. (The video is
embedded in the right panel of this page.)
The man on the street interview was
