Actor Zachary Quinto is set to play a gay character on Ryan Murphy's upcoming supernatural drama American Horror Story, Nikki Finke's DeadlineHollywood.com reported.

American Horror Story will debut on FX on October 5. In the show, married coupled Ben Harmon (played by Dylan McDermott) and Vivien (Connie Britton) and their children move into a house that knows their secrets and plays on their fears.

The 34-year-old Quinto will play, in at least four episodes, Chad, the gay former owner of the house who befriends Vivien. His character first appears during a two-part Halloween episode.

Quinto is best known for playing a young Spock in the 2009 J.J. Abrams' directed Star Trek reboot.

Taking on another gay role – Quinto recently played Louis Ironson in the revival of Tony Kushner's groundbreaking AIDS drama Angels in America – is nearly certain to stoke those gay rumors once again.

Last year, Quinto told The New York Times that he would rather talk about issues that he's passionate about such as marriage equality or the bullying of gay teens than answer questions about his sexuality: β€œThe fact that these things are such hot-button issues right now, socially and politically, I would much rather talk about that than talk about who I sleep with. I would love to be a voice in this maelstrom of chaos and obsessive celebrity infatuation that says, 'Let's talk about something that matters.'”
