Tegan Quin of the Canadian indie band
Tegan and Sara cheered passage of a gay marriage law in New York.
Under the new law, signed by Governor
Andrew Cuomo last month, gay and lesbian couples will be able to
marry in the Empire State starting on July 24. New York joins 5
other states and the District of Columbia in legalizing gay marriage.
In a post about Gay Pride at the band's
blog, the 30-year-old Tegan cheered the news.
“Speaking of Pride – my heart
swelled with pride when gay marriage became legal in New York State
this past week,” Tegan
wrote late last month. “Sara and I believe in equality for all
people. It blows my mind and saddens me greatly to think that in so
much of America and the world that Sara and I and so many people we
love and respect are not considered equal under the law. Let's
change that for everyone! Get involved guys!”
Tegan and her twin sister Sara are
openly gay.
