The Internet rumor is that Ryan
Kwanten, who plays Jason Stackhouse on the HBO vampire drama True
Blood, is preparing to come out gay.
Speculation over the 34-year-old
Australian actor's sexual orientation was prompted by a
BlindGossip.com post earlier this week that asked, “What HBO star
is going to be coming out of the closet soon?”
Boy
Culture blog reported that celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who is
gay, wrote on his personal Mario
Lavandeira Facebook page that Kwanten is gay. (Boy Culture has
since removed the June 6 post.) And gay social media website
Dlisted.com said the blind item was referring to Kwanten.
Last year, Kwanten
told gay glossy The Advocate that he's always been
comfortable with the idea of male admirers.
“Australians are a very open-minded
society,” he said, “and I come from a very liberal, open family,
so it's something that I've embraced from the get-go.”
Gay fans have “always been very
staunch supporters of me. The great thing is that it's a loyal fan
base – they'll stick with you through thick and thin, and I like
that. You can't buy that kind of loyalty.”
And he talked about his brother Lloyd's
coming out gay at the age of 18.
If Kwanten does comes out gay, he would
join co-stars Evan
Rachel Wood and Anna
Paquin, who have come out bisexual.
