The cast of Broadway's The Normal
Heart has joined the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) New
Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign.
“Hi, we're the cast of Broadway's The
Normal Heart,” Mark Harelik, who plays Ben Weeks in the play,
starts off in the 30-second video released Tuesday.
“Our play is about love and activism
in an uncommon time,” says Luke Macfarlane (Craig Donner and
Grady).
“Another fight for our families is
happening right now in New York,” says Wayne Alan Wilcox (David and
Felix), “over who is allowed to marry,” adds Richard Topol
(Hiram).
After Patrick Breen (Mickey Marcus)
says, “Please join us in supporting marriage equality for all New
Yorkers,” the entire cast adds, “The time is now.” (The video
is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
Larry Kramer's AIDS drama The Normal
Heart returned to the Broadway stage in April, nearly 26 years
after it first debuted.
The play's cast is the first Broadway
production to join the growing list of celebrities, professional
athletes, prominent politicians and everyday folks to record a video
for the campaign that began last year.
But with less than 2 weeks left in the
legislative session, the push to make New York the sixth state to
legalize gay marriage this year is running out of time.
