Actress Julianna Margulies passed on
playing a lesbian in the film Cherry, which co-stars James
Franco and Heather Graham and is based on a script written by Stephen
Elliot and former porn star Lorelei Lee.
The 44-year-old star of CBS' The
Good Wife talked about movie scripts she had been offered during
a The
Hollywood Reporter drama actress roundtable with Kelly
Macdonald, Christina Hendricks, Melissa Leo, Regina King, Katey Sagal
and Connie Britton.
Margulies, who has a 3-year-old son, at
first said she “got offered a porn movie,” but then she explained
it was a movie about porn.
“James Franco is doing it,” she
said. “And because he's doing it, it's attracting all these
people. I was like, ultimately I'm like a lesbian porn star going
down on women. I can't, I have a child. That's what's being offered
to me? I think I'll just keep my day job.”
“It wasn't that I was insulted by
it,” she said. “I was actually incredibly thrilled by it.”
Margulies added she believes women are
being offered better roles on television than films.
