Chelsea Lately chat show host
Chelsea Handler and actress Kristen Bell are urging fans to get
involved in the campaign to legalize gay marriage in New York.
The two women have set up a
Friend-setter page on Friendfactor,
the social media website that connects straight allies with gay
rights causes.
“I support my gay friends,” Handler
tweeted to her more than 3.5 million followers on Monday. “Click
here to support now & win NY marriage.”
The website provides an easy way for
people to voice support for New York's proposed legislation. After a
user enters his or her information, the site dials their legislator
and prompts the user with a script urging action on the gay marriage
bill.
In four days, Handler
has mobilized nearly 700 fans. And Bell
has racked up nearly 100 calls.
Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former
president Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, also
recently came out in favor of gay marriage at a
Friendfactor benefit in Manhattan.
