The Topeka, Kansas church best known
for coining the phrase “God hates fags” has released a video
spoof of the gay rights group NOH8 Campaign.
The NOH8 Campaign, which is helmed by
photographer-activist Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley,
photographs celebrities and everyday folks with their mouths duct
taped and the campaign's familiar “NOH8” slogan often written on
one cheek. The campaign raises awareness and funds to end
Proposition 8, California's gay marriage ban.
In the Westboro Baptist Church's
25-minute video, followers of the Rev. Fred Phelps, most of whom are
family members, are seen with their mouths duct taped and “GOD H8S”
written on one cheek. Also written on the tape are the groups God
hates, which include “Jews,” “fags” and the “USA.”
In one segment, an unidentified speaker
remarks: “Two fags cannot be one flesh. Sodom and Gomorrah set
forth as an example of suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
There are no fags in heaven.” (The video is embedded in the right
panel of this page.)
