Country music singer Chely Wright and her girlfriend, gay rights activist Lauren Blitzer, are engaged to be married, People magazine reported.

Wright's spokesperson told the magazine that the women will marry on August 20 in Connecticut, one of five states where gay marriage is legal.

“They met through their youth advocacy work, and say that their passion for Scrabble holds them together,” the rep said.

Wright is listed as a board member of Faith in America, a non-profit that counters “the bigotry, prejudice and hostility toward the LGBT community being sold to the public for several decades under the guise of religious belief and religious teaching.” Blitzer lists the group as her employer on her Facebook page.

“@chelywright I'm pretty sure I have the best gf in the world who is currently getting me bacon :)” Blitzer tweeted on March 11.

Last year, Wright told People that she's a lesbian. She went on to describe her life as a closeted celebrity in her memoir Like Me.

Wish Me Away, a film documenting her coming out gay experience, will premiere on April 15 at the Nashville Film Festival.

Wright has said that her decision to come out hurt her career.
