Actor Jonathan Groff will return in the three final episodes of the Fox musical-comedy Glee.

The 26-year-old openly gay actor exited the show at the end of season one.

Groff's Jesse St. James quit rival school glee club Vocal Adrenaline to join New Directors and date Broadway-bound diva Rachel Berry (played by Lea Michele). Rachel was heartbroken when it was revealed that he used her to infiltrate McKinley High's glee club and report back to Vocal Adrenaline.

“He's back to apologize to Rachel,” a source close to the show confided to TVLine.com's Michael Ausiello, “and perhaps get her back.”

Commenters on TVLine.com mostly cheered the news of Groff's return.

“Yes! I love this dude. He's a WAY better match for Rachel than dorky, unattractive Finn,” wrote one poster. “Finally a reason to be excited.”

Groff and Michele appeared together in the Broadway production of Spring Awakening.

While participating in the 2009 National Equality March, a march on Washington in support of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights, Groff told all-things-Broadway website Broadway.com that he's “gay and proud.”
