Broadway diva Kristin Chenoweth has
joined the cast of Sex and the City executive producer Darren
Star's Good Christian Bitches pilot.
The ABC dramedy project is based on Kim
Gatlin's 2008 novel of the same name.
Thirty-six-year-old Leslie Louise Bibb
(Iron Man, Iron Man 2) will play the lead role of Amanda, a
mother of two who after the death of her billionaire husband returns
to her Dallas neighborhood, where she is confronted by the
community's uppity wives.
Chenoweth, who starred opposite Sean
Hayes in the Broadway revival of Promises, Promises, will play
the role of Darlene, the ringleader of the group.
According
to gay male entertainment website AfterElton.com, the cast
includes a closeted husband who is married to one of the gossipy
wives, Cricket. But Blake Caruth's sexuality is an open secret among
the women.
In the pilot script, Darlene spies
Caruth holding hands with his boyfriend, Booth Becker. Casting for
either gay character has yet to be announced.
The Parents Television Council has
already criticized the ABC pilot, labeling its title an attack on
“the world's largest faith” and an “affront to women.”
