Sex and the City 2 star Cynthia
Nixon and her partner Christine Marinoni welcomed a baby boy on
Monday, People magazine
reported.
Marinoni gave birth to the couple's
son, Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni.
“Christine and baby are doing great,”
Nixon's publicist told the magazine.
Nixon, 44, and Marinoni, 43, began
dating in 2004. They announced they were engaged in 2009 as New York
lawmakers geared up to debate a gay marriage bill. The couple
campaigned heavily for its passage. Senators, however, rejected the
bill, leaving the women unable to marry in the Empire state.
Last spring, Nixon suggested they'd get
married in Iowa. Marinoni, however, nixed the idea, insisting the
couple would wait to get married in their home state.
Nixon began dating Marinoni after she
split up with her boyfriend of 15 years, Danny Mozes. Nixon and
Mozes share custody of two children, fourteen-year-old Samantha and
eight-year-old Charles.
Other openly gay celebrities who
recently became parents include singer
Elton John and Neil
Patrick Harris, star of the CBS sitcom How
I Met Your Mother.
