Shay Mitchell has joined the cast and
creators of ABC Family's mystery drama Pretty Little Liars in
recording an It Gets Better video.
Twenty-three-year-old Canadian beauty
Mitchell plays gay teenager Emily Fields on the television show,
which was recently renewed for a second season.
“When my character Emily came out on
Pretty Little Liars she was lucky to have friends who accepted
and loved her unconditionally,” Mitchell says in the video. “Not
everyone has a supportive community around them. But, like Emily,
you might have more than you think.”
Mitchell's best friends on the show,
Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson and Lucy Hale, back her up in the
video.
Series creator Marlene King says her
family includes her partner of 17 years and two young boys.
“We're a typical family just like any
other family,” King says.
Executive producer Oliver Goldstick
says he wouldn't have believed 30 years ago that he would become the
father of two sons and be in a relationship with an “amazing”
partner for over 20 years.
“There you have it,” Goldstick
says, “it definitely gets better.”
