Nate Berkus on Wednesday will unveil
his redesigned youth lounge named after Seth Walsh, the 13-year-old
gay California student who was bullied to commit suicide.
The unveiling of the youth lounge at
YES, an LGBT community center in New York, will take place during an
hour-long episode of The Nate Berkus Show devoted to anti-gay
bullying.
Recently out country music star Chely
Wright tours the new lounge on the episode.
Also appearing on the program will be
Wendy Walsh, the mother of Seth Walsh. Wendy discovered Seth's body
hanging outside her home. The
mother appears in a video released last week by the American Civil
Liberties Union (ACLU). In the video, a tearful Wendy reads the
suicide note her son left behind. She has said that she's speaking
out in hopes of raising greater awareness of the problem of
schoolyard bullying.
The topic is especially personal for
Berkus and Wright, who are openly gay and strong advocates for
gay-inclusive anti-bullying policies that protect children.
The episode, titled Rebuilding Home
After Tragedy, airs on Wednesday.
