Scandinavian Airlines or SAS
(previously Scandinavian Airlines System) is set to host two
in-flight gay marriages in December.
SAS has announced the winners of its
Love is
in the Air marketing campaign, which was sponsored by IGLTA, the
International Gay Lesbian Travel Association.
The airline said it received more than
300 submissions from happy couples eager to marry on December 6 on a
flight to New York from Stockholm.
A gay couple and a lesbian couple were
selected.
German couple Aleksandar Mijatovic and
Shantu Bhattacherjee came in first with a total of 81,640 votes.
The men met over seven years ago at a
party in Berlin and have been together ever since.
When asked, “What do you love most
about your partner?” Mijatovic said: “That now after 7 years I
still have butterflies in my stomach when I look at him. And I love
the fact that I always feel that I am in a team and that I can rely
on him and trust him unconditionally.”
“That he is like a rock,”
Bhattacherjee answered. “Nothing can bring him out of balance.
And he can cheer me up no matter in what a bad mood I am. … But
most of all I love the fact that there is a person that completes me
throughout and is giving me the feeling that I don't need anything
else at all.”
Second place winners Ewa Tomaszewicz
and Gosia Rowinska from Poland have been together over five years.
The women say it was love at first sight for the pair.
North Carolina residents Thomas
Landreth and Brett Kessler won a dream wedding at Sweden's famous
ICEHOTEL.
