“It's time to stand up for our
friends,” Whoopi Goldberg says in a new ad for Fight
Back NY.
“Here in New York there are a couple
of things we like to call no-brainers: avoiding Times Square on New
Year's Eve, rooting for the Yankees, and standing up for your
friends.”
Goldberg's friends are gay men and
lesbians who cannot marry in New York. And in a new gay marriage ad,
the 54-year-old actress-comedian-talk show host urges New Yorkers to
oust state senators who last year rejected a gay marriage bill.
“See, now is the time to stand up for
our friends,” Goldberg adds. “And really, darling, it's a
no-brainer.” (The video is embedded in the right panel of this
page.)
Goldberg joins Sex
in the City 2
star Cynthia Nixon, actress
Rosie Perez, Modern
Family
star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and 30
Rock's Alec
Baldwin in joining the fight to oust senators opposed to gay
marriage.
In her ad, Perez says New York Sate
Senator Ruben Diaz Sr., the Senate's most vocal opponent of gay
marriage, does not speak for the majority of New York Latinos.
“Where I'm from, they've got this
saying: 'Whatever creams your Twinkie.' You know what I'm saying?
Live and let live,” she says.
