Openly gay celebrities Elton John,
Ricky Martin and Wanda Sykes are among the celebrities endorsing
Cyndi Lauper's Give
a Damn campaign against homophobia.
The PSA, which also features
actress-singer Idina Menzel and Fat Actress alum Rachael
Harris, is the latest from Lauper's True Colors Fund.
“Whenever I hear about a hate crime
I'm shocked and saddened,” John says.
“Gay, lesbian, bisexual and
transgender people constantly face this fear,” Harris adds.
“Sometimes with devastating results.”
“We all have to give a damn,” Sykes
says. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
A similar video featuring True
Blood's Anna Paquin, 27, saying “I'm bisexual. And I give a
damn.” crashed the group's website due to “enormous traffic” in
April.
Lauper's charity has raised over
$200,000 over the past 2 years for gay rights groups such as the
Human Rights Campaign
(HRC), CenterLink
and PFLAG,
the support group for parents and friends of gay men and lesbians.
The give a damn-themed video urges
everyone to get involved in stomping out hate crimes against gay men
and lesbians.
