Lady Gaga says her new single
Alejandro is a
celebration of gay love.
The pop diva teased her fans with a 20
second trailer of the video for Alejandro last week, which has
tallied 3 million views on YouTube, but released the full version on
Tuesday.
Coming in at a lengthy 9 minutes, the
video, directed by Steven Klein, who collaborated with Madonna on the
X-STaTIC PRO=CeSS video installation, offers a glimpse into the
darker side of the always outrageous pop star. The intense video
includes shocking scenes of Lady Gaga wrestling with religion and
leashing scantly clad men into submission.
Speaking last week to CNN's Larry King,
Lady Gaga said Alejandro “is a celebration of my love and
appreciation for the gay community. My admiration of their bravery
and their love for one another. Their courage in their
relationships.”
Lady Gaga is a fierce advocate for gay
rights, especially the right of gay and lesbian couples to marry.
At Saturday's GLAAD
Media Awards, she took home the Outstanding Music Artist prize
for her most recent album The Fame Monster.
