A father in Highlands Ranch, Colorado
says he was berated by a store manager in front of his 4-year-old
son.
James Shawlin shared his experience at
Floor & Decor in a
Facebook post.
Shawlin told Denver's
9News that he was at the store on Friday attempting to sort
through stones for a fireplace in his house. He explained that this
was his fifth trip to the store to return defective stones.
“The stones were broken and they were
basically gluing them back together and putting them in the box and
selling them,” Shawlin said.
The store manager approached Shawlin as
the was going through the boxes to check the stones.
“I was a little firm with him, and I
just told him, 'Hey, you know, my husband and I spend a lot of money
here. We've been using you guys for ten years. We have $3,000 worth
of stone' And [the manager] goes, 'Oh, that explains it now. The
faggot that voted for Hillary.'”
A customer who overheard the
conversation chimed in that President-elect Donald Trump would “make
America great again.”
“He basically said, 'What are these
faggots going to do to this child?'”
In his Facebook post, Shawlin said that
he was “shocked, hurt and very upset.”
A spokesperson for the Atlanta-based
company with 75 stores nationwide told 9News that it was taking the
incident “very seriously.”
According to a response on its
Facebook page, Floor & Decor has fired the employee.
“The individual at issue is no longer
employed by F&D,” the company wrote. “We are an inclusive
and diverse company and are committed to treating all customers with
courtesy and respect at all times.”
