In an interview with People, Tom
Ford discusses meeting his future husband Richard Buckley.
Ford and Buckley, who married in 2014,
will celebrate 30 years together next month. The couple has one son,
4-year-old Jack.
The 55-year-old Ford heads his own
fashion label, Tom Ford, and has directed two movies. His latest
film, Nocturnal Animals starring Amy Adams and Jake
Gyllenhaal, won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice International Film
Festival where it premiered.
“Richard was a fashion journalist and
I was a young fashion designer, and we were at a mutual friend's
fashion show,” Ford said of his first meeting with Buckley. “Our
eyes locked. It was literally love at first sight. There was
something in his eyes that said, 'The rest of your life.' We have
been together ever since.”
“If the person you're with is someone
you respect, who you believe has as good a heart and soul as you will
ever find, don't ever leave them, because you won't find anyone
better,” he added. “Even if there are moments [or] even years
that can be tough. Stick it out.”
