A court in Ivory Coast has imprisoned
two men accused of same-sex sexual acts.
According to the AP, the men were given
three months in prison for public indecency after they were accused
of having gay sex.
The
AP quotes the group Espace Confiance in reporting that the men
received the sentence from a court in Sassandra, a town 155 miles
west of Abidjan.
The group's advocacy director said that
such sentences are rare in the West African nation.
Gay sex is not illegal in Ivory Coast,
but public indecency is a crime.
In June, several
gay men in Ivory Coast said that they were attacked by an angry mob
after they signed a condolence book in honor of the 49 people who
died during a mass shooting in a gay nightclub in Orlando.
