Noor Salman, the widow of Omar Mateen,
has denied rumors that her late husband might have been secretly gay.
Mateen is the 29-year-old man who
killed 49 people and injured dozens when he opened fire in a gay
nightclub in Orlando, the Pulse.
His first wife has publicly questioned
Mateen's sexuality, saying that he could have been secretly gay.
In her first interview, Salman talked
with Adam Goldman of The New York Times.
“And she did not think Mateen was
gay,” Goldman tweeted. “He forced himself on her repeatedly when
he wanted sex.”
Salman also told Goldman that Mateen
was abusive and threatened to kill her if she left him.
“I was unaware of everything,” she
said. “I don't condone what he has done. I am very sorry for
what has happened. He has hurt a lot of people.”
On the day of the shooting, Salman said
that Mateen told her that he had to visit a friend and would not be
home for dinner. It was the last time she saw him alive. The
following morning she received two texts from her husband: “Did you
see what happened?” and later “I love you babe.”
