Ellen DeGeneres, Laverne Cox, Daniel
Franzese and Britney Spears were among the celebrities who supported
Thursday's Spirit Day.
Spirit Day supports efforts to combat
the bullying of LGBT teens. Supporters were encouraged to wear
purple on Thursday. Since its inception in 2010, GLAAD has played a
prominent role in promoting Spirit Day.
“Kicking off #SpiritDay with my fans
tonight!” Spears tweeted on Wednesday. “Everyone go purple
tomorrow with @GLAAD to stand with #LGBT youth.”
Carson Kressley messaged: “It's
#SpiritDay! Take a stand against bullying and show your support for
#LGBT youth.”
Sense8's Jamie Clayton and
Orange is the New Black's Laverne Cox also messaged their
support.
“Happy #SpiritDay!” Ellen DeGeneres
tweeted. “Show the world you love them just the way they are.”
Looking's Daniel Franzese
captioned a purple-filtered photo of himself with fiance Joseph
Bradley Phillips: “We've gone purple with @glaad for #SpiritDay to
show we are against bullying! We demand safe #LGBTQ inclusive spaces
for our children.”
