NBA legend Magic Johnson reveals in a new memoir that he initially did not want his son EJ to be gay.

EJ Johnson, the star of E!'s reality series EJNYC, came out in 2013.

Magic and Cookie Johnson appeared Wednesday on Good Morning America to pitch Cookie's memoir Believing in Magic: My Story of Love, Overcoming Adversity, and Keeping the Faith.

When GMA co-anchor Robin Roberts stated that Magic talks about how he “didn't want” his son to be gay in the book, Magic nodded in agreement.

“You're very honest Magic that you had a tough conversation with him about it, you didn't want him to be, and then you changed and you apologized to him for some of the things that you had said to him,” Roberts stated.

“I had to come to realize that this is who he is, and he's going to be happy,” Magic responded. “And so why am I judging him? I'm his father, so I got to be the first one to say, 'It's OK and I love you. Now, how can I help you?'”

“We know that religion says 'No,' and I did have a big problem with that,” Cookie added, saying that God revealed to her that love is the answer. “You gotta love your child.”
