ABC has purchased a family drama about
a minister who comes out gay to his adult children.
Grace, from Mandeville TV, takes
place in the fictional town of Grace, Missouri. It revolves around
the lives of the adult children of a minister and how they are
impacted by their father's later-in-life revelation.
Deadline
Hollywood described the drama as “a grounded, unfolding saga of
a 21st-century American family and the everyday challenges
they face as members of a community and as individuals, and how their
faith both guides and complicates their lives.”
The drama is written by Eyal Podell and
Jonathan E. Stewart. It is loosely based on Stewart's own life. His
father was a preacher who came out.
While a bit reminiscent of Amazon's
groundbreaking hit Transparent, in which a parent comes out
transgender to his adult children, Grace adds religious
elements to the narrative.
