In accepting an Emmy Award, MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts thanked his husband of four years.

Winners of the 37th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards were announced Wednesday at the Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City.

MSNBC's coverage of the Supreme Court's ruling on same-sex marriage won in the Outstanding Live Coverage of a Current News Story category.

“I take so much pride to accept this award,” Roberts said in accepting the award on behalf of his team. “I came out publicly ten years ago and it was a lonely place for a long time. But it's not so lonely anymore.”

“And to my husband Patrick [Abner], we celebrate 16 years together coming up at the end of the month, four years officially married, I love you. We're sleeping with Emmy tonight,” he added.

In a Facebook post, Roberts added: “Very humbled as a journalist & as an 'OUT' married man. It is always nice when you can publicly thank your spouse!”
