A United Methodist Church (UMC) pastor
in North Carolina who married a gay couple won't lose her job.
According to The
Charlotte
Observer, the Rev. Val Rosenquist, who married John Romano
and Jim Wilborne in April at the First United Methodist Church of
Charlotte where she serves as pastor, also won't face a church trial
for marrying the couple.
Clergy who violate UMC policy which
forbids pastors from marrying gay couples may lose their jobs, stand
trial or even be stripped of their church credentials.
The Western North Carolina Conference
of the United Methodist Church has sealed details in the case until
2018 – those involved, including Rosenquist and complainants,
cannot discuss the matter – but said Tuesday that a “just
resolution” had been reached.
Amy Coles, assistant to the bishop,
confirmed that Rosenquist will continue in her post.
