In a videotaped interview with
BuzzFeed, singer Troye Sivan talks about coming out.
The 21-year-old Sivan came out gay in a
2013 YouTube video.
When asked how he prepared for his
coming out, Sivan answered that he watched “every single coming out
video.” “There are so many people that … I would love to meet
and say thank you to,” he said.
“The first one that actually mattered
to me who has since come out as not straight is Miley Cyrus,” he
said of his favorite out celebrity. “When I was like 13 or
whatever and watching Hannah Montana, I thought she was the
coolest person in the world.”
Cyrus' 2010 single My Heart Beats
for Love reportedly was inspired by a gay best friend.
“I was like, 'Oh my God, Miley Cyrus
has a gay best friend. Why am I not this person?'” Sivan
rhetorically asked.
