Amazon will premiere Tig Notaro's One Mississippi on Friday, September 9.

In One Mississippi, Notaro's character returns to Mississippi after her mother's sudden death.

The comedy, or “traumedy” as Notaro has described it, is based on Notaro's own life.

During a recent Television Critics Association (TCA) panel, she said that the events in the series were “85 percent real.”

“My mother died. I had cancer. I had an intestinal disease and couldn't eat. I went through a breakup. I had pneumonia. The list goes on,” she said of 2012.

Of her character's sexuality, Notaro said that she might be the first lesbian lead who does not come out gay during the series, a reference to Ellen DeGeneres, who outed her character on Ellen and herself in 1997.

Comedian Louis C.K. is an executive producer on the show.
