An LGBT rights group has erected a
billboard calling for the dismissal of suspended Alabama Supreme
Court Chief Justice Roy Moore.
The billboard off I-85 in Montgomery
captions a black and white photo of Moore in a black judge's robe
holding a gavel with “#NoMoore: Dismiss Alabama Supreme Court Chief
Justice Roy Moore.”
The Alabama chapter of the Human Rights
Campaign (HRC) is behind the billboard.
Moore is accused of violating judicial
ethics related to his opposition to marriage rights for gay and
lesbian couples. Moore ordered probate judges to not issue marriage
licenses to gay couples in defiance of federal courts. His lawyers
argue that Moore was merely offering advice.
At a hearing on Monday, the Alabama
Court of the Judiciary will hear arguments on a request to convict
Moore without a trial, which would result in Moore's immediate
removal from the bench. Moore's trial begins September 28, if it
goes to trial.
