Actress Floriana Lima will play Maggie
Sawyer in the second season of Supergirl.
According to The
Hollywood Reporter, Lima's character was inspired by the gay
DC Comics character first introduced in 1987. Maggie was revealed to
be gay in the Superman titles and was later romantically
linked to Batwoman.
On Supergirl, which is moving to
the CW from CBS for its second season, Maggie will be a detective for
the National City Police Department who takes an interest in cases
involving aliens.
Other additions to the cast include
Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr and Lynda
Carter, who played Wonder Woman for three seasons on the television
series, as the president of the United States.
Supergil's second season
premieres Monday, October 10.
