Thousands of people attended a vigil
Monday to remember the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting.
According to the Orlando
Sentinel, the massive gathering spilled over the lawn of the
Plaza at the Dr. Phillips Performing Acts Center near City Hall.
Jimbo Wood, 27, told the paper that he
lost several friends in the attack.
“This is my therapy for the day,”
he said as he passed out white candles to the crowd. “I didn't
want to just sit at home and mope. To have busy hands has helped.”
“I came because I wanted to show that
a horrible act like this frightens people but it doesn't polarize
us,” said Kristen Peacock. “I'm a transplant. I've been here
seven years. But this has made me feel like this is my city.”
The names of the 49 victims were read
and church bells rang 49 times.
