Out British singer Elton John on Monday
vowed to help end the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Russia.
Performing at a Moscow concert hall,
John thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for inviting him to
“discuss some serious issues in Russia, including LGBT and HIV and
AIDS.”
While Putin did agree to meet with
John, the pair did not meet on this trip due to a scheduling
conflict.
John expressed hope for a future
meeting.
“I very much hope we will find time
in the future to meet and discuss,” John told the crowd.
John added that a dialog of compassion
is what is needed to end the AIDS epidemic.
“I hope to be in Russia again and
often. And I want to be helpful in any way I can in helping to
create an AIDS-free future for everyone who is infected in Russia. I
promise you that I will try my best [to help] every single Russian
with HIV and AIDS. Thank you,” John said.
