In an interview with gay glossy Out,
YouTube personality Connor Franta talks coming out gay.
The 23-year-old Franta came out to his
millions of fans in a video posted in 2014.
Out wanted to know what went
into his decision to share his sexuality with the world.
“After I turned 20, I spent a couple
of months coming out to my friends and my family. Then I spent six
months existing as an openly gay person,” Franta
answered. “Toward the end of it, I realized, I don’t know
what’s holding me back from telling the rest of the world. I have
this audience that I want to be authentic with and I want to be
myself with, but I consistently am avoiding certain topics and
pronouns, and I don’t want to do that anymore. I really fast
tracked my experience by coming out over a year’s time to literally
the world. It was the best thing I’ve ever done with my platform.
It was the best experience because everyone was so warm, accepting
and loving. I couldn’t have asked for anything better than that.”
When asked about those conversations,
Franta said that he “sobbed the whole time” and that he “loves”
being gay.
He added that he prepared for the video
by watching “every coming out video on YouTube.”
