Florida Senator Marco Rubio on Tuesday suspended his campaign for the GOP presidential nomination.

Rubio had hoped to win the Florida primary and gain momentum, but Donald Trump handily won the state. Florida was called for Trump at 8PM, soon after the polls closed.

“We live in a Republic and our voters make these decisions,” he told his supporters in Miami.

Without naming his opponent, the 44-year-old Rubio made several thinly-veiled references to Trump.

“America is in the middle of a real political storm, a real tsunami, and we should have seen this coming,” he said.

“While we are on the right side, this year we will not be on the winning side,” Rubio added.

Rubio has previously said that he would not run for a second term in the Senate.
