Singer Demi Lovato will be honored for
her LGBT rights advocacy at next month's 27th annual GLAAD
Media Awards in Los Angeles.
At the April 2 event, Lovato will
receive the group's Vanguard Award, which is “presented to artists
and media professionals who, through their work, have increased the
visibility and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender community.”
In 2014, Lovato appeared in an HRC
video in support of marriage equality.
“Whether you're LGBT or straight your
love is valid, beautiful and an incredible gift,” she said in the
45-second ad.
She also played a lesbian love interest
for the character played by Naya Rivera on the fifth season of Fox's
Glee.
“Demi Lovato has consistently used
her platform as a successful artist to send messages of acceptance
and support to LGBT people everywhere,” GLAAD President & CEO
Sarah Kate Ellis said in announcing the group's decision. “She is
an extraordinary ally who is committed to helping young people
embrace who they are and live the lives they love.”
This year's awards show will be
broadcast April 4 on Logo.
