Out actor Wentworth Miller says his new
The CW series Legends of Tomorrow challenges viewers to accept
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
The series, a spinoff of The CW
properties Arrow and The Flash, premiered last week.
Among the team of heroes and villains
Rip Hunter (played by Arthur Darvill) brings together to prevent
Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) from destroying Earth is Sara Lance,
known as White Canary and played by Caity Lotz.
Executive Producer Phil Klemmer
recently told Entertainment
Weekly that Fringe alum Ali Liebert will portray
Lindsay Carlisle, a “potential love interest” to Lance.
Miller, who plays Leonard Snart /
Captain Cold on the show, spoke to the AP about its diversity.
“I have to believe, I assume, that
there's going to be someone in some part of the country or the world
that doesn't know anyone, for example, who is LGBTQ,” Miller
said. “But because they're watching Legends of Tomorrow
or Prison Break, because I'm coming into their living rooms,
because they know that I, for example, am a gay man, I think they're
then challenged to hold a larger and more generous space for someone
who's LGBTQ than they might.”
“I think that when an actor on one of
your favorite shows comes out of the closet or reveals themselves to
be different in some way, it's a little bit like a family member
coming out or sharing some personal part of themselves. And you
receive it in the same way that you receive a family member sharing
and coming out and being true to who they are,” he added.
