The Los Angeles LGBT Center has
released a video for the song Hands of Love from the movie
Freeheld in hopes of landing an Oscar nomination in the Best
Song category.
Out singer-songwriter Linda Perry wrote
the song after seeing the film.
According
to Deadline, Perry began writing the song during the film's
screening. Miley Cyrus' version of the song has been streamed more
than 7.5 million times on Spotify.

The LGBT Center's video features
historical footage of the gay rights movement set to Perry's original
demo.
Familiar images from Matthew Shepard's
murder, the AIDS crisis and fight over Don't Ask, Don't Tell to
wedding bells for gay and lesbian couples after the Supreme Court's
landmark ruling are set to Perry's moving lyrics.
Freeheld stars Julianne Moore
and Ellen Page as a lesbian couple battling a discriminatory
government.

Tobey Maguire, Christina Aguilera and
Sara Gilbert, who is married to Perry, are hosting a party on Tuesday
to draw attention to the song as Oscar voting continues.
Oscar nominations will be announced on
Thursday, January 14.
