Carmen Carrera and Adrian Torres' June
10 marriage will be featured on Wednesday's season finale of VH1's
Couples Therapy with Dr. Jenn.
Broadcast of the wedding, which took
place at a private home in Chatsworth, California, makes Carrera the
first transgender person to marry on a reality television show.
“This wedding has given us a sense of
freedom to be proud of what we have and who we are,” Carrera
told PEOPLE. “Celebrating our love and what we call our
'modern, modern family,' lets us know that we belong here and that we
also have a place to raise a family of our own on our terms. We feel
truly blessed.”
“I was so eager for the ceremony,”
she added. “Honestly, knowing that I was going home a married
woman gave me a sense of peace.”
Carrera, who appeared on the third
season of RuPaul's Drag Race, and Torres entered a domestic
partnership in 2009. In 2013, Carrera announced that they had
separated.
