Sara Gilbert encouraged parents to talk to their kids about
homophobia.
Gilbert married songwriter and former 4
Non Blondes lead vocalist Linda Perry in 2014. In February, Gilbert
gave birth to Rhodes Emilio Gilbert Perry. Gilbert also has two
children from a previous relationship with television producer
Allison Adler.

“You want to get in there while their
brains are still forming, before it's hard-wired in,” Gilbert said.
“And I feel like if they don't hear it from you, they're going to
learn it from school. So, I just want to beat the other
information.”
“With my kids, obviously, I was extra
sensitive to homophobia for them. I remember one of them when I was
engaged coming to me and saying like, 'You know, you can't really get
married.' 'Cause when we first got engaged it wasn't legal.”
“And I think, if you don't take those
moments to take it further, you are doing your kids a disservice,
because in their minds something's wrong,” she added to applause
from the audience.
