Who's the Boss? co-stars Judith
Light and Alyssa Milano have spoken out in support of Danny Pintauro,
who played Jonathan Bower for eight seasons on the ABC sitcom.
In an interview broadcast over the
weekend with Oprah Winfrey, Pintauro, who came out in 1997 after the
National Enquirer threatened to reveal his sexuality,
announced that he's been living with HIV for 12 years. He blamed a
crystal meth addiction at the time for “taking away his
inhibitions.”
“He's kept me informed all the way
along,” Light said in a Good Day New York interview.
“I am so proud of him. He's talking
about being HIV-positive. He is being incredibly proactive … He's
giving a different face to what is still a disease that has not been
handled,” she added.
During an appearance on CBS' The
Talk, an emotional Milano said that she was proud of the
former child star.
“I'm so glad that he is able to
express himself now and I guarantee he will change so many lives,”
she said. “And I'm so glad that this disease is being discussed
again, because it feels like there was such a long time that it
wasn't. And he is a beacon of light and he will be. I'm proud.”
