UK rugby star Gareth Thomas talks coming out gay in a new ad from Guinness.

The ad is part of the beer giant's Made of More campaign (#madeofmore), which celebrates “stories of strength of character and integrity form the world of rugby.”

In the 74-second clip, Thomas says that the physical pain he endured playing rugby “was nothing compared to the demons” tearing him apart.

“In my darkest hour, I turned to my teammates. Telling them I was gay, that was the toughest thing I've ever done. And when I needed them the most, they were there for me,” Thomas says. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)

Thomas, who retired from rugby in 2011 following an injury, publicly announced he is gay in 2009.
