Actress Ellen Page made a surprise
appearance Saturday at a Gay Pride event in Jamaica.
The 28-year-old Page came out gay last
year during a Valentine's Day speech delivered at Time to THRIVE, an
LGBT youth conference hosted by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) in
Las Vegas.
Page posted a photograph of the flash
mob event she attended in Kingston, the nation's capital. She tagged
the photograph with the hashtag “gaycation.”
Roughly 40 people attended the event,
which was held outside Emancipation Park.
J-Flag, an NGO that promotes LGBT
rights in Jamaica, posted on Facebook a photo of Page with Karen
Lloyd, program officer for J-Flag.
JA Latoya Nugent, co-chair of Pride
Jamaica, called Page's participation “magical and
awe-inspiring,” in comments to Gay
Star News.
Due to security concerns, the
first-ever Pride Jamaica did not include a parade.
