A documentary film on openly gay, four-time Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis premieres Tuesday on HBO.

Back on Board: Greg Louganis follows Louganis over the past three years as he reunites with diving, the sport that he once dominated.

The film from openly gay director Cheryl Furjanic follows Louganis, 55, as returns to diving to mentor the Olympic team.

“I always wondered what happened to Greg Louganis,” Furjanic said in a press release. “When we first approached him, we had no idea that we would find him facing such difficulties. During the three years we spent making this film, one thing that became clear is Greg's resilience.”

Louganis' story “is connected to so many important moments in American history, including the Olympics, the AIDS epidemic, the gay rights movement and even the recent home-foreclosure crisis,” said writer-producer Will Sweeney.

Back on Board: Greg Louganis premiered in May at AFI DOCS Film Festival in Washington, D.C.
